So you’re thinking of sending us a query letter–or you’ve already done so! Now what?
At this point in time we’re still too new for a lot of traffic and our managing editor does not go on long vacations without her phone. Yours may be the only query letter in our inbox. What this does not mean is a guaranteed spot in our to-publish list. What it does mean is we should get to it quickly. If we aren’t the right fit for your novel, you can expect a formal rejection letter within five business days. Assuming we really don’t have a lot of other things to do, we will try to make it as encouraging as possible. If we want to see more, we will request your full manuscript within the same time frame.
Before we officially accept your manuscript, our managing editor would like to meet with the author face to face or over video call for an interview. If all is well and we think you and your novel are the right fit, we will send you a contract to sign. Within the next 1-8 weeks after receiving the signed contract, we will return your full manuscript with comments and content edits and expect you to make any necessary changes before your manuscript goes through the line editing process. Shortly after you have edited your manuscript and sent it back we will commission the cover to be made. After final edits, your book will be formatted. From start to finish, we expect the process to take 2-6 months before your book is available for purchase. Oh, and we’ll throw in a couple images for social media advertising purposes! We will also run ads on your book at our discretion.
During this time you will not pay a dime. More Than A Fantasy Publishing will cover the costs we deem necessary, and in return we will receive a percentage of your book’s profit before handing the rest over to you.
We are more than happy to talk with each author about the bigger picture they see and how they’d prefer to do things. For example, if you would like to finish each book in your trilogy and have us do a rapid release, we can make that happen. As long as everything sounds reasonable, we are very flexible.
For now, thank you for considering us, and we look forward to reading your work!
*p.s. while ‘we’ use the term ‘we’ in order to sound professional, it’s really still just me, Mariah, and though I’m a professional, I promise I’m not intimidating. Just thought I’d let you know!
